Some weak storms came through the area on Thursday, and since I was so
die-hard for my first real lightning shot of the year, I decided to try
for a daylight shot instead. Yep, when you are desperate, you are
desperate I suppose. I was actually halfway surprised at this piddly
little storm's structure. It wasn't half bad!
Backed out to 17mm
This storm was dropping quite a few cg's too. I just bought a Verizon
air card so I also wanted to test that out. The radar showed a tiny
little green blob, so it was sort of surprising to see these little
guys so energetic. After missing about 12, I finally got one. Yep, the
'08 drought is over.
The scene was pretty sweet after leaving my spot on this back road. A
VERY bright rainbow emerged out of the rain shaft after started pushing
off to the east. This thing was probably the brightest I have ever
seen.
A faint double rainbow.
Later on some more little cells popped up on radar. I met up with Joel
and we hit up Sand Road in Erie. The action wasn't too thrilling, but
still got my lightning nevertheless. The twilight colors really made
this scene unique. Whenever I get a twilight photo op, I rarely pass it
up.
A few very dim bolts in front of the orange-lit rain shaft. I forgot
how fun it was to shoot long exposures.
Not much, but it was fun to head out again. I also just noticed that
the "Save for Web" function in Photoshop really screwed with these
photos too. Even saving them in high format takes quite a bit of the
quality away.
